I made a barbed wire baseball bat a few years ago to fit into my cyberpunk environment recreation. I felt like with what I know now and using different software I could produce something better. This also has some inspiration from The Walking Dead with Negans bat called Lucile. However, I wanted to add a few extra damaging options to the bat to make it look more threatening.
I also used to love playing games like Dead Island and Dying Light where they have modified weapons like this so that is why I added some nails and a Saw Blade that has been cut in half and been placed at angles within the bat.
Now, with this model I wanted to get it textured and rendered for Artstation as I want to be more consistent with my posts. I would work on the topology a bit more as I feel this is one of my weaknesses when it comes to 3D modelling as I am trying to learn how to clean up topology for the model to be game ready. There is a great video that explains this in Blender but, getting into that mindset is going to take some practice. I would also spend more time before putting this into a game by deleting faces that would never be seen by the player such as the Nail ends that are stuck into the bat and the overlapping grip wrap.
The reason why I am explaining this is because I am aware that if I had more time on my hands and if this was my job to get an optimised model imported to a game, then I would take the time that I would have to clean up the model to the best I can before posting anything. However, in the world of work and being extremely busy and not having much time to focus on these little things, I just want to get the look of my artwork out there!
Eventually, I will become faster at making models and have a bit of time to focus on cleaning up assets more and put them in a game environment which is my plan as I want to work on my own project.
As always, thank you for taking your time to read and support me with my journey trying to break into the games industry one way or another.
